Mike Foreman was raised in Wadsworth, Ohio. At various times during his upbringing, his parents were elected officials — his father a county prosecutor then a county judge, his mother a city councilwoman. Mike spent 40 years in Federal Government service as a NASA astronaut, Naval Officer, Project Manager and Leader. Career highlights include five spacewalks totaling over 32 hours outside the International Space Station performing “very high altitude” construction tasks. He holds multiple Engineering degrees and is a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School. Mike has flown more than 7,000 hours in over 50 different aircraft.

Mike has been married to his wife Lorrie for over 38 years. They have three grown children. Since May 2016, Mike has served Friendswood as a member of City Council.

NASA Highlights

  • Selected as an astronaut in 1998; the seventeenth NASA astronaut class.
  • Flew on two space shuttle missions to the International Space Station (ISS).
    • STS-123 on the space shuttle Endeavour – delivered the Japanese Experiment Logistics Module and the Canadian-built Special Purpose Dextrous Manipulator (DEXTRE). 3 spacewalks.
    • STS-129 on the space shuttle Atlantis – delivered two Express Logistics Carriers and over 30,000 pounds of replacement parts for ISS power systems. 2 spacewalks.
  • Chief of NASA Astronaut Safety for over three years.

U.S. Navy Highlights

  • Awarded the Legion of Merit for “exceptionally meritorious conduct in performance of outstanding services” over 30-year career in the United States Navy.
  • Trained with Dr. Edwards Deming in Process and Quality Improvement.
  • Recruited by NASA to lead upgrades for the shuttle cockpit systems.
  • Military Director – Naval Air Warfare Center/Aircraft Division
  • Chief Engineer for the U.S. Navy’s T-45 advanced jet trainer aircraft
